Forty-Eight on Eight Legs

The Octopus has taken the Appalachian Mountain Club's New Hampshire 48 4000'er challenge. He desires to ascend each major peak in the White Mountains while carried in someone's pack. He plans to pursue this goal in rain, snow, high winds, or jammed into a compression sack.

Join The Octopus in his quest to go higher, faster, and farther:

Notes:

Unnerving exposure and wind
Steep and rough
Fine views into Carter Notch
Brutal Beaver Brook cascades
Nothing. Just a sign.
Pure vertical via Huntington Ravine
Assaulted by winged wildlife
Snow and sun...
...but watch the map!
Bivies in the snow
Liked the Zealand sign better
An epic...
...Bond ridge...
...traverse...
with some camping.
Trivial.
Perfect sun and snow.
Clear, wild, and windy.
Six legs worth of heavy alpine ski gear
Classic climb, with perfect Octopus weather
Suckers inadequate on icy Falling Waters Trail
Ledgy summit sprint outside the pack
Nine miles on eight legs? Trivial.
Trash-talk caps a 15.5 mile day
A Southern Presis expedition!
MR finishes 48, Octopus overindulges
10 miles on 8 legs
Cold, damp, wet, foggy, ...
...icy snowy, sunny!
Hikin' and a'poachin'
Just a pile of rocks in the woods
All eight legs needed to climb the chimney
With the diversion to East Sleeper...
...for a 15.2 mile day
Crystal clear fall views...
...of the Pemi
With Webster in winter conditions
18 miles fast and light
It really is longer...
...than it looks on the map
8 legs of view
Suckers fail on wet, polished rock
Already up there, the easy way down from Flume
